Well, I am guessing everyone is back to their normal routine and “recovered” from a busy, but awesome week of camp. I just wanted to take a second to reflect…thank you to all the campers and staff who made it a fabulous week. It’s hard to believe all the work that goes into making camp happen and then it seems like it’s over in a blink of an eye. We ended with most possibly one of the best (and longest) skit nights in the history of Arrowood! 🙂 My hope is that campers left Arrowood with a few new nuggets to add to their basketball bag of skills, perhaps a few new friends, and lots of lessons that will help them in the bigger game called life. Campers use this summer as a time to practice your skills, develop your work ethic and…JUST GET BETTER! As the 2015 neon pink and orange tank top says, “If you think practice is boring, try sitting on the bench!” Hope to see everyone for AW 2016! Enjoy the rest of your summer! 🙂
The theme of camp today was CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE and the campers got plenty of opportunities to practice that between the weather and the schedule changes. All in all they did a fabulous job of choosing their attitudes today and we had a blast with the first group to compete in the quadathalon, which consists of biking, running, swimming, and canoeing– and I’m just gonna be the first to say, we may need to add “canoeing skills” to our fundamental stations every morning!! Not sayin, just sayin 😉 After a bit if an auspicious start, another great day at Arrowood! #ChooseYourAttitude
Focus word/Phrase of the day is PAY IT FORWARD. Campers discussed what this means, watched a few inspirational clips and journaled about how they can pay it forward this week in camp and in their daily lives! It was wonderful to hear some of the great small group discussions with their teams!
Well, Mother Nature smiled on us this morning and gave us a brief dousing of rain! Delayed our schedule a little bit, but we managed to squeeze in some swimming and canoeing as weather cleared and courts dried. We are back on schedule now…sun is out and balls are bouncing! #AW2015 #GottaBeFlexible
Well the first day of @Arrowood4Fun 2015 is in the books and I think it went quite well The pace was face and furious and I think they will sleep hard! Focus word/phrase of the day was “FOCUS”, lol! We talked about being an Eskimo vs. a Texan…u will have to ask your camper which one best describes them! Off to bed…my feet will be happy! 🙂 #AW2015 #LifeIsGood
I LOVE summer!! There are so many things to love, right? Warm weather, sunshine, Dairy Queen, long bike rides, flip flops, watermelon, the beach, staying up late, sleeping in, and basketball camp…those are just a few of my favorites. When I was a kid I couldn’t wait to go to camp! Sure, the whole camp experience was fun and I enjoyed hangin’ out with my friends and feeling that sense of “being on my own” for a week. But if I’m honest, I have to admit that I loved the competition and knowing that I was actively doing something to improve my skills as a basketball player. The desire to be a better ballhandler and a smarter passer, to be able to score from anywhere on the court, to be in better shape, to get quicker and stronger, to learn the nuances of the game — to be the best I could be– fueled me…. and basketball camp provided the spark that launched me into the rest of the summer with renewed dedication and determination to JUST GET BETTER. When the first day of school comes around in the fall, and you look back over your summer, what will you have done to JUST GET BETTER? I know a great place to start — nine days ’til Arrowood. I LOVE summer!
